Steve Ortega is a fifth-generation El Pasoan whose deep roots in the Borderland community have shaped both his legal career and his commitment to public service. A graduate of Cathedral High School, Steve earned bachelor’s degrees in Government and Sociology from The University of Texas at Austin before receiving his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C.
Steve served two terms on the El Paso City Council and continues to advise on matters involving local, state, and federal public policy through his legal practice and consulting work. His dedication to civic leadership is reflected in decades of service to nonprofit and community organizations throughout the region. He currently serves as vice chairman of the boards of Hospice of El Paso and El Paso Matters and as a board member of the Heart Gallery of El Paso.
Over the course of his career, Steve has held numerous leadership positions, including president of the El Paso Downtown Management District, vice chairman of KCOS El Paso, vice chair of the El Paso Chamber’s Mobility Coalition, and chairman of the El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization.
In recognition of his contributions to the community, Steve was named a Legacy Honoree by Cathedral High School and received the Conquistador Award, the City of El Paso’s highest civic honor.
